Sleep is a beautiful thing.
Sleep is a beautiful thing. But for some 70 million Americans who are affected by Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and/or heavy snoring, a good night’s sleep can be a challenge. Another 70 million bed partners may also be affected as folks with sleep apnea snore, gasp for air and toss and turn.
At Artistic Dentistry of Atlanta we can help.
Sleep Apnea, and the resulting lack of sleep, has been associated with health issues including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, irregular heartbeats, strokes, fatigue, morning headaches, impaired concentration and even Alzheimer’s disease.
With our advanced training and computer aided technology we have the ability to evaluate your airway for breathing and sleep issues. We have teamed with a number of quality oral appliance companies to provide you with a custom solution to your sleep apnea and snoring. A comprehensive review includes a sleep study and a consultation with your physician as to the best course of treatment for each patient.
Continuous Positive Air Pressure, or a CPAP, is still considered the gold standard of care for sleep apnea as it provides a continuous flow of oxygen to the patient. But, a CPAP can be cumbersome, uncomfortable and non-portable. Many times people diagnosed with sleep apnea do not pursue treatment simply because they do not want to wear a CPAP. While a CPAP device can be a great treatment option for your health, studies show over 50% of patients discontinue its use after about 6 months due to inconvenience.
It is often possible to treat mild and moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and snoring with an oral appliance worn at night during sleep to alleviate symptoms. Patients tend to be much more compliant with oral appliances over the years. An oral appliance can more easily be taken on business trips and vacations even for occasional use even if a CPAP is utilized at home on a regular basis. Please let us know if you have given up on your CPAP device, have had a sleep study and never followed up, or need a travel oral appliance.
Sleep is indeed a beautiful thing. Because sleeping occupies a full one third of our lives your body and health deserve a sound and refreshing night sleep.
